What were we thinking???

Goals... Dreams... Desires...
If you asked anyone what their ultimate goal in life would be. Most would start the sentence with, "When I retire, I will BLANK." Well, in the middle of 2022, Katelyn and I looked at each other and asked what would we do if we didn't work.
Katelyn said, "I would spend my time with my family."
On the other hand, I said I would either buy a boat and sail around the world or become a digital nomad and move to Southeast Asia.
So we did what any rational person would do and said we would wait until we retired... HAHA. Just kidding, we did the complete opposite. We asked ourselves, how do we do it now?
Over a few months, we developed a plan to rent out our house, sell some of our stuff, and get our real estate business capable of operating remotely.
By the time October 2022 hit, we were ready, but we had one problem. We did not have hundreds of thousands of dollars to buy the boat we wanted to sail around the world. And when I say Sail, I mean a diesel motor yacht with the range to take on that size of a trip.
So we did the next best thing and booked three direct flights to Bali, Indonesia.
But you might be asking yourself what you did with your 4-year-old and 100-pound German Shepard. Well, we, of course, brought Chase (our 4-year-old son) with us. Now, Bali was not too keen on allowing animals. So my father-in-law agreed he would fatten up our dog (Diesel) and take on the responsibility of watching him while we were gone.
Before we left for Bali, we thought it would be fun to take a three week road trip from our home in Georgia to California. We would visit the beach, Bourbon St., and towns like Austin, Texas. We stayed in a couple of hotels, short-term rentals, but what we enjoyed the most was camping. We loved it. Well, I wasn't a fan of waking up on the floor when our air mattress decided to pop in the middle of the night or freezing my tail off. But all in all, we enjoyed it. We even laughed when we saw an R.V. and said one day it would be fun to travel the USA in one.
Southeast Asia was excellent... and was the coolest experience we have ever had as a family. We were genuinely digital nomads capturing our journey through our YouTube channel.
We spent eight weeks in Bali and then took a short flight to Phuket, Thailand, and spent four weeks in Thailand. But like most significant things, we needed to return to the USA for a foot race I signed up for.
On our journey back, we hit a few snags. Our original plan was to road trip from California to Georgia, camping along the way. But as outstanding as our plan was, our Nissan Titan had a different plan for us. The motor in our truck blew up, and we took the next five months fighting Nissan to have it repaired. (Another blog post for that entire experience. It still isn't over.)
Once we got our truck back with a shiny new, used motor, we started looking at R.V.s.

On October 2, 2023, we purchased a 2009 Outback Keystone 210RS travel trailer and started our plan to hit the road and continue traveling. But this time with our dog Diesel. So please sit back and look out because our chosen life is not the simplest and has already left us with a few surprises. Some are good, and some are not so good. But the great news is, we are back at it, traveling the world and documenting our journey on our YouTube Channel.
