Vandalism or Fun???

Vandalism or Fun???

When you start planning your cross-country trip from one side of the United States to the other, you look for stops that will make memories. Well, Cadillac Ranch helped us make art fun. Chase has never really been into coloring or drawing, but when he saw these giant Cadillacs buried in the ground, things changed rather fast.

This week, we left the comfort of our cozy lakefront site to hit the road and continue west. Our first stop was in Wichita Falls, Texas. Kate found a cozy spot under the off-ramp to camp. Just kidding. We struggled to find the exact location of our County campsite, but it ended up being a tremendous flat pull-through site with power, water, and a dump station. Plus, it was a short walk to the waterfalls. I swear Kate told me it was a hike, but it ended up being a nice flat walking path to some pretty big falls.

But why the heck would we stop in this small town? Well, when you are a four-year-old, Halloween is a pretty big deal. So Kate found a nice, safe place hosting a trunk or treat for kids at a local church. Chase loved it. He dressed in his new favorite superhero costume (Spiderman) and was enchanted by the slides, bounce houses, and fun Halloween games. Plus, Kate bought some big kid candy, and we ended the night eating with a few two many peanut butter cups.

Good times had to end, and we needed to work on the RIG, and it was a messy job. We needed to remove and re-caulk the shower and kitchen sink. After almost 1500 miles, our kitchen sink was a little shakey and wouldn't stay in place. This wasn't a horrible job, but it took way too long. We stripped off all of the old caulk and replaced it. So far the kitchen sink and shower have held up just fine!

Now, the real journey was to Cadillac Ranch. I have driven by it a few times, and if you are not looking for it, you will miss it. If you are driving west, you will have to take the off-ramp near the Loves Gas Station and flip a U-turn to hit. If you are headed east, just get off at the Loves Gas Station exit on the West end of town, about a mile down a frontage road.

Was this the coolest thing we have ever done??? NO. But it was darn cool for Chase. The ability to grab some rattle cans and spray paint cars buried in the ground is a memory he won't forget. We spent about an hour there drawing and making cool designs. If this stop is on a whim and you don't have spray paint. They do sell it on-site. Not sure how much it is, but Chase was gifted a bag from a couple who was through, and we returned the favor to the next set of tourists.
